RESIDENTS are fed-up of using a broken footpath near an Oxfordshire school that they deem is no longer safe to walk on.

People in Bicester are calling for the footpath, which sits next to Bicester School, to be repaired or replaced.

Resident Gemma Edwards, who walks on the path every week, has set up an online petition in a bid to get owners Sanctuary Housing to find a solution.

She said: "My oldest son uses it daily to walk to school, and this is why it needs repairing so badly. So many children use it daily, some on bikes, and it terrifies me that one of these children is going to end up going over their handlebars or falling badly and breaking an arm or something.

"It's difficult to get a pushchair down there as well. Our old buggy could hardly manage it."

A spokesperson for Sanctuary Housing said: “We are grateful to local residents who have brought their concerns about this footpath to our attention.

"A surveyor is carrying out an inspection today (June 22) and will then put forward possible short and long-term options that we can consider to address the issues raised.”
