A businesswoman campaigning to improve the experiences of women working through the menopause is holding a free online event for World Menopause Day (18/10).

Although menopause is a natural and predictable part of every working woman's life, statistics show it causes one in 10 to leave their jobs – at great cost to their employer and distress to themselves.

Dr Maria Evans is aiming to raise awareness by offering a free talk: Helping women successfully work through the menopause.

She said: "I was nearly one of those women who leave the workplace because of the menopause. In a matter of months I went from a successful working woman, juggling home life and the writing up a PhD, to being anxious, depressed, and scared.

"I thought I was losing my mind."

Dr Evans is campaigning for more employers to introduce sound policies to guide them.

She said: "A government report highlighted the costs to employers of experienced older women workers lost to menopause as long ago as 2017, yet eight out of 10 women say their employer still doesn't share information, train staff, or have a menopause absence policy."

A trainer, coach and researcher Dr Evans is supporting organisations keen to improve the support they offer.
