Sir – The decision by Chiltern Railways to rename Bicester Town Station Bicester Village is shocking, insulting and just plain wrong.

Chiltern Railways claims independent market research of only 100 people showed a majority in favour of the proposed new name. Other research conducted (Bicester TAG for example) says quite the opposite and indeed many people I have talked to agree.

The public consultation event firmly rejected renaming the station Bicester Village and the decision is an affront to those of us who attended.

Also, personally, I fail to see how renaming the station will lead to a reduction in traffic. Those who will use the train as a new means of reaching Bicester will need to live within easy reach of a station along the route. All others will continue to use the car as their primary method of transport.

As for making it less confusing for travellers it is insulting to imply that visitors lack the intelligence to get themselves on the right train to the right location.

So come on Chiltern Railways, rethink the decision and actually listen to the people of Bicester.
