Sir, In response to Ruth Martin’s recent letter – as to the whereabouts of the Victorian letterbox in London Road, Bicester – I took this up with Royal Mail a couple of weeks ago. I was informed that the box was damaged by persons unknown to such an extent that they were unable to repair the post-box and that all parts of the box had to be taken away for disposal.
However, as the photograph (taken in December 2009) shows, the bottom of the outer frame of the box was already cracked.
So another piece of Bicester’s precious history has disappeared.
