Sir, With reference to the on-going saga that is the Middleton Stoney road speed limit, can I offer this suggestion? For the past few years I have been walking into town by choice (blood pressure and weight are at their lowest for years) and one of my favourite routes is down Middleton Stoney Road. Some years ago I attended a speed awareness course and I learned a lot about recognising clues for a potential speed limit if there are no signs.
Along Middleton Stoney Road there are two indicators – namely a pavement and street lighting.
I dare say that if every street light had a 30mph limit repeater sign, vehicles would still exceed the limit. Now may I offer this suggestion: walking towards Bicester, the houses on the left-hand side are set well back from the road and have no vehicular or pedestrian access until you get to where the old 30mph limit signs used to be. The new housing project also has houses set back from the road and there is just the one exit on to the main road. I would suggest, then, that the 40mph limit that is in place from the Shakespeare Drive roundabout to the Howes Lane roundabout be extended to where the old 30mph limit used to be.
