Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet revealed she is enjoying being "nasty" after exploring her evil side in Divergent.
The 38-year-old, who is known for her good-girl roles in films including Titanic, Revolutionary Road and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, shows off her villainous streak as Jeanine Matthews in Neil Burger's big-screen adaptation of the first novel of Veronica Roth's dystopian trilogy.
The movie had its European premiere at London's Odeon Leicester Square cinema today.
"I am actually playing another nasty person this year (in The Dressmaker). I don't know why I'm suddenly playing nasty people," she said. "It is very fun, though, and it isn't real, at the end of the day."
Winslet, who showed off her post-baby curves in a black Jenny Packham dress, revealed it was not difficult to let out her nasty side.
"It was really easy. It was very much playing a different role. It was something very new for me and a whole other challenge playing someone who is quite so cruel," said the actress. "Also, playing someone who has quite a scientific mind was new for me. I've never played anyone like that before."
She was joined by her husband Ned Rocknroll (Ned Abel Smith), the father of her new son Bear Blaze, as well as co-stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James and director Burger at the premiere.
Woodley, who plays Tris Prior, called Winslet "amazing" and "a strong, empowered individual". The Golden Globe-nominated actress also said she threw herself into the action scenes.
"I've never really done stunts before but I wanted to do as much as I could. I've never done an action movie before and learnt a lot of new techniques," said the 22-year-old.
British actor James, 29, played down his new-found heart-throb status despite receiving the most screams at the event.
"It's really fun. The exciting thing is, it's people who are excited about the movie and people who are interested in the story and are already invested in it," he said.
Divergent, which also stars Zoe Kravitz, Jai Courtney and Ray Stevenson, opens in cinemas on April 4.
