10:00am Thursday 4th October 2012 in Rugby
Alchester’s Matt Dye holds off two Buckingham backs to score the final try in their 21-17 win against the Southern Counties North
Alchester made it three wins from three Southern Counties North matches as they beat leaders Bucking-ham 21-17 on Saturday.
It was the perfect start to life for Alchester in the first competitive game at their new Fritwell home.
The hosts went ahead when Adam Thompson combined with Sean Cooke, before popping a pass for Joe McEneaney to power over in the corner, Tom Miles converting for a 7-0 lead.
Although Buckingham cut the lead with a penalty, Adam White skipped a tackle before running in under the posts after great work from Khristian Ancil, Miles’s conversion made it 14-3.
Just before the break, Alchester were temporarily reduced to 14 men when Robin Tyreman was sin-binned for a high tackle on Buckingham’s ex-Alchester man Steve Miller.
After the break, Bucking-ham then had a man sin-binned for a high tackle on Matt Dye.
Dye made Buckingham pay when he raced in at the corner, with Miles putting over his third conversion of the game for a 21-3 lead.
Garrick Kimber was harshly sin-binned for retaliation before Buckingham cut the deficit to 11 points points with a converted try.
Late on, Miller scored a converted try against his old club to set up a nervy finale, but Alchester held on.
