RUGBY UNION: Battling Alchester give leaders a test
11:00am Thursday 5th April 2012 in Rugby
Alchester led promotion-chasing Windsor 13-0, before succumbing 26-13 in Southern Counties North.
A penalty and a try late in the first half saw the home side 8 -0 to the good at the interval after pinning Windsor back in their own half for much of the half.
Tom Miles’s penalty put them ahead and then centre Jack Briggs and winger Andy Blacklock created space for replacement second row Matt Dye to sprint over in the corner.
Alchester increased their lead just two minutes into the second half as flanker Tom Isles scooted through, but then Windsor began to pile on the pressure.
An unconverted try got them on the scoreboard and they camped in the opposition half.
A second try came on 65 minutes after spending ten minutes inside the Alchester 22.
A tiring home defence let in Windsor for two further tries in the last five minutes.
This was the last game Alchester will play at Marston Ferry Road, as next season they will be moving to a new home ground at Fritwell.
Bicester saw off Swindon College Old Boys 18-8 in Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier Division.
All Bicester’s points came in the first half via tries from Dan Spencer (2) and Jack Horwood, Spencer also landing a penalty.
Swindon replied with a James Mc-Laughlin try and Dan Thomas penalty after the break, but Bicester held on.
