HEAD coach Craig Burrows says Oxfordshire’s Twickenham victory has given his side a platform for progression.

The county edged a thrilling final on tries scored after their match with Sussex finished 29-29.

Oxon had suffered two previous defeats at rugby’s national stadium.

But after waiting 11 years for the chance to return, they were crowned Bill Beaumont County Championship Division 3 champions on Sunday.

It was far from straight forward, with Sussex scoring two tries in the last ten minutes.

But after Oxon were forced to rely on another result to go their way to reach Twickenham, it seemed only fitting there would be more drama.

Burrows said: “That’s been the story of the campaign.

“It wasn’t going to be straight forward, there was always going to be a glitch in the journey.

“But what it does now is give a platform.

“We’ll enjoy it and the next challenge will be can we come back and retain it.”
