DEPLETED Alchester lost two players to injury as they suffered a disappointing 15-5 defeat at Chesham on Saturday.

On a cold and blustery day, Alchester made the trip to the heart of the Chiltern valley in a rearranged BB&O Premier match following its postponement two weeks ago.

The hosts started on the front foot and used the wind to their advantage by kicking downfield at every opportunity.

Alchester’s defence stood strong and mid-way through the first half, began to put some passages of play together.

But a penalty conceded on the edge of the 22 allowed Chesham two bites at three points.

The ball first flew left of the posts, only for the referee to ask for it to be retaken due to him not being ready.

And the successful second attempt gave them a 3-0 lead at the break.

A well-placed kick over the top saw Chesham score a converted try and extend their advantage at the start of the second half.

But Alchester responded, with Jack Briggs breaking through on a loose ball to dive over for an unconverted score.

The visitors were in need of a converted score to go away with the points.

However, they lost both their scrum half Dan Kimber and full back Iain Downer to arm and leg injuries respectively.

Chesham managed another ball over the top and scored in similar style to their previous try, giving them an unassailable 15-5 lead in the closing minutes.
