ABINGDON put on an eight-try show to beat Chesham 60-5 at a chilly Lambrick Way on Saturday.

Benny Davies, Jamie Lochrie and Luke Mathews all crossed twice, while Lee Taylor's effort and a penalty try helped the south Oxfordshire side maintain third place in the BB&O Premier.

The celebrations of the pre-match President's lunch seemed to transcend onto the pitch, with Abingdon proving far too quick and agile for their more robust opponents.

It took just five minutes for the hosts to open the scoring, Davies breezing over under the posts, with fly half Chris Stables easily converting.

Abingdon rode a period of pressure from the visitors and, after winning three scrums against the head, Stables kicked a penalty to make it 10-0 on 15 minutes.

They were soon 17 points to the good as No 8 Lochrie sold two Chesham defenders a dummy to go over and Stables was accurate with the boot once again.

Further misery was inflicted on the visitors when Davies intercepted a hopeful pass to ease over. Stables converted to make it 24-0.

Chesham, though, had the last say in the first half as mis-handling in the Abingdon backs allowed them to win a penalty, leading to centre Alex Jaycocks crossing for an unconverted score.

Abingdon's dominance continued after the break as they went on to add five tries.

Mathews cruised over on 51 minutes, with Stables adding the extras, and moments later it was 38-5 as the full back scored a brilliant solo try, running in from half-way.

Stables' good day with the boot continued with his fifth conversion.

As the half wore on, the hosts were drawn into a forwards battle which suited the visitors' style of play, but Abingdon held firm, resisting several attempts to drive over.

Ill-discipline from both sides marred the final ten minutes.

Chesham prop Will Goodes was sent to the sin-bin and Stables slotted the resulting penalty to make it 41-5.

And tempers continued to boil over as Abingdon's Dale Cross and Chesham's Ollie Jaycocks saw red.

In the midst of all that, a Lee Taylor score and a penalty try, both converted by Stables, extended the host's lead to 55-5.

Abingdon's Lewis McKenna was sin-binned in the dying moments, but Lochrie helped himself to an unconverted try, his second score of the match, to seal an emphatic victory.

Leaders Gosford All Blacks made it 11 wins in a row in all competitions, racking up six tries in a 40-0 victory at Risborough.

It took 16 minutes for the visitors to get on the scoreboard, with full back Chris Bennett dotting down.

Tim Ellis converted to make it 7-0.

Prop Tom Heydon then broke through to score, Ellis adding the extras, for a 14-0 lead at half-time.

After the break, fly half Harry Sutton dropped over the whitewash for an unconverted try, before Ben Bodinham crossed to secure the bonus point.

Ellis slotted the extras to make it 26-0.

Luke Newton and Eugene Griffin then completed the scoring, with Ellis converting both tries, for a comprehensive win.

Charlie Surman’s second-half try proved enough as Alchester edged Wheatley 7-3.

Adam White added the extras after Wheatley had led at the break through a penalty.

In the Championship, improving Oxford were beaten 27-7 by third-placed Harwell.

Andrew Marley scored the host’s only try, with Shane Turner converting.
