ALCHESTER ended the calender year with a narrow 24-22 defeat at mid-table Slough in the BB&O Premier.
The defeat marks the end of a tough 12 months, which included relegation from Southern Counties North and only one win in their last seven matches in the eighth tier of English rugby.
Alchester began brightly against Slough as good hands amongst the backs put Iain Downer in for a try.
Adam White added the extras for 7-0.
But it was Slough who held a three-point advantage at the break after two unconverted tries.
The hosts went on to grab two converted scores in the first ten minutes of the second half to race into a 24-7 lead.
But Alchester responded and a White penalty, followed by a Jack Briggs try and a maul over the line, one of which was converted, earned a bonus point.
