HENLEY Hawks conceded six tries as they lost 47-13 at home to Blackheath in National League 1.

Fred Gabbitass kicked two penalties to give the visitors a 6-0 lead, before Hawks’ James Comben replied with a three-pointer.

However, Blackheath took hold of the game when Terry Read crashed over and Gabbitass added the extras for 13-3.

Full back Geoff Griffiths then touched down for an unconverted try.

Hawks secured possession and Comben’s penalty to the corner allowed them to mount a driving maul, which saw Tom Hall go over.

Comben converted for 18-10.

However, with half-time approaching, Aston Croall made it 23-10 to the visitors.

Hawks made a spirited start to the second half, but struggled to trouble the visitors as possession was turned over in the rucks on a number of occasions.

Comben kicked a penalty, but on 59 minutes, David Allen touched down and Gabbitass slotted the conversion for 30-13.

The latter then landed a penalty, before George Edgson crossed.

Gabbitass added the extras for 37-13, before converting a last minute penalty try after Hawks illegally stopped a driving maul.

Chinnor suffered a third-straight defeat in National League 2 South as they lost 44-20 at Cambridge.

In an eventful opening six minutes, Chinnor led 10-7 after Jonathan Hopkin kicked a penalty and converted Jake Olley’s try.

Brett Daynes went over for the hosts and Gerhard Boshoff added the extras.

Cambridge took control as Albert Portsmouth and Ean Grffiths went over. Boshoff converted the first for 19-10.

Chinnor’s Mark Darlington was sin-binned and the hosts made it 26-7 when Stephen Hipwell crossed and Boshoff converted.

In the second half, Olley went over for his second try and Hopkin added the extras, before the latter kicked a penalty for 26-20.

However, Cambridge racked up a further 18 points.

Portsmouth crossed for an unconverted try, before James Stokes kicked two penalties for 37-20.

With Chinnor down to 14 after Frank Jones was binned, Stokes converted his own try to complete the scoring, before Portsmouth was dismissed for violent conduct.
