Banbury Colts took a mixed squad to Grove for a friendly fixture on Sunday and had a credible 29-14 win.

In blustery conditions and on a sticky pitch, the visitors started the brighter with captain George Grieve adding penetration and pace to Banbury’s attack.

Turning over a lineout 20 metres out, Banbury span the ball wide for Ben Humphreys to go over in the left corner.

Sam Manning narrowly missed the conversion.

Banbury went further in front when Hugh Saar fed Reece Lines an inside ball and he drove over to score, Manning adding the extras.

Grove battled back strongly and a slipped tackle allowed them an easy score under the posts, which was converted.

But Banbury responded and Saar fed Harry Smith, who bundled over the line.

Manning converted as Banbury took a comfortable 19-7 lead at half-time.

A lovely weighted chip from Jack Briggs saw Grieve slide in for an unconverted try.

Concerted pressure by Grove’s forwards resulted in a penalty try, which was converted.

But Banbury had the last say as a Briggs grubber-kick was picked up by Grieve who went over for his second try.

Meanwhile, Oxfordshire RFU is launching a new website next month to help pubs and clubs promote events.

As well as detailing competitions and activities around the county, the website – oxonrugby2015.com – will also show which pubs are rugby friendly and will be showing the games in the Six Nations.

Anyone hosting any     rugby-themed events or showing matches that they would like to be advertised on the website, should email dominic@oxonrugby2015.com for further details.
