Elliot Kear is plotting revenge tomorrow as London Welsh welcome Edinburgh to the Kassam Stadium in the European Challenge Cup, writes Matthew Bruce.

The Exiles were beaten at Edinburgh last weekend after succumbing to a late onslaught from their hosts, but the former rugby league star is looking forward to the chance for immediate redemption tomorrow.

“It’s a really good opportunity to get our first win,” said Kear.

“I think we were unlucky to lose last week and we were well in it until the last ten or 15 minutes.

“We’ve had a couple of things to work on this week and we’ve got a couple of lads coming back in to strengthen the side.

“This could be the week we finally get that first win.”

Hooker Nathan Vella admitted he was devastated after last week’s defeat, but feels a win tomorrow would be the perfect tonic.

He said: “It was up there with the hardest defeats we’ve had, because we know we’ve got no one else to blame except ourselves.

“The boys are feeling really confident after that performance though, because we know we just need to keep doing the right things and cut out the mistakes.

“But a win this weekend would be huge.

“To get a win would give us a massive confidence boost and some momentum to carry into the league.

“This competition is definitely all about momentum for us and a good result will give us something to take into the Saracens game next week and could really kick-start our season.”
