JUSTIN Burnell says losing to Bedford Blues still hurts, but his London Welsh side won’t be side-tracked by a desire for revenge this weekend.

Bedford, who visit the Kassam Stadium on Sunday (2.30), ended the Exiles’ nine-match winning start to the league campaign with a 28-26 victory on November 30.

But head coach Burnell, whose side went second in the table after winning at Cornish Pirates last week, is focused on the bigger picture.

“They ended our winning run and that still hurts,” he said.

“But this weekend is about us; we need to keep our continuity going and we’re looking forward to it.

“They were better than us that day.

“But for us, this is another game and we are always hoping to better ourselves.”

Welsh won 20-5 at Pirates, but Burnell wants a more clinical display against Bedford.

“It was a good performance at the weekend, but I feel we squandered five clear opportunities,” he said.

“The process this week is just rectifying those errors and moving forward.”

Welsh return to the Kassam Stadium for the first time since beating Rotherham on February 9 and Burnell can’t wait to be back at their adopted home.

“We love playing at the Kassam Stadium,” he said. “The surface is great for us. It’s a good place to be.

“We love playing rugby in Oxford and looking forward to being back there on Sunday.”

Bedford finished third last season before losing to Newcastle in the play-off final.

But they have struggled for consistency this campaign and lie ninth in the table.
