RUGBY UNION: Quins slipping closer to drop

National 3 South West

POOR decision making cost Oxford Harlequins dear in a 42-14 defeat at Old Patesians.

The loss coupled with Amersham & Chiltern’s win at Malvern means Quins cannot now finish higher than 11th – the only remaining survival spot.

Brett Turner put Old Pats 6-0 ahead with two penalties in the opening quarter.

Quins centre Seisoni Tupou threatened with some strong runs, but the hosts led 13-0 at half-time after flanker Leroy Hughes dived over from a scrum, Turner converting.

The visitors had prop John Durkin yellow-carded on 42 minutes, then Old Pats increased their lead with a try from wing Danny Davis.

Tupou set up full back Harry Whuittington for Quins’ opening try, fly half Will Hilton converting.

Tries from full back George Hughes, converted by Turner, and scrum half James Aherne made it 30-7.

Prop Jon Direen shot through a gap for Quins’ second try, Hilton converting.

But Hughes completed his try treble late on, Turner converting the latter.
