OXFORD Rugby League will hold a second trial session as they prepare for the 2013 Championship One season.

More than 70 players attended the new club’s open trial at Oxford RFC and now 25 have registered for their second gathering at the same venue on November 18.

Head coach Tony Benson said: “I’m pleased with our start, it’s a positive day for the club.

“These type of days are tricky as you never know who or what is going to turn up.

“Credit to our volunteers and support from the Cavaliers, Oxford Brookes University and the RFL, they all pulled together and executed their roles brilliantly, leaving me and Tevita Vaikona to evaluate the players.”

Former Oldham coach Benson has already lined up a number of experienced players, but is also keen to have local recruits for the side who will play at Iffley Road.

He added “First impressions count as they say and several players achieved that today but you can’t build a squad in a day, hence the club’s second trial. ”
