Former Oxford United winger joins Cobblers

Former Oxford United winger Chris Hackett has joined fellow npower League Two rivals Northampton Town.

The 29-year-old signed a two-year deal with the Cobblers, who are looking to strengthen after selling Michael Jacobs to Derby County last month.

Hackett began his career with the U’s, making 142 appearances in all before leaving for Hearts in January 2006.

He had spells on loan at Exeter and Wycombe Wanderers last season before being released by parent club Millwall in May.

Meanwhile, United hold their AGM at the Kassam Stadium today (July 4) where the club’s chiefs are likely to be questioned by shareholders about the ground-share with Aviva Premiership new boys London Welsh.

The U’s have yet to give an official response in the wake of the Exiles’ successful appeal on Friday, which confirmed their place in the top flight next season.

this is going to be an interesting day with the "AGM" later what rubbish is thomas, lenagen going to come out with , the lack of signings,the rugby groundshare all the excuses in the world about the lack of ativity they bound to blame others for this ...PLUS they keep on saying bye your season tickets for what to put the money in his back pocket.

The owners and management of Oxford United have brought stability to the club. No end of season clear outs of staff/players, no panic buying, no forced player sales or releases...

Promotion and long-term success is about signing the right quality of player, at the right price, and not dashing out and signing the first players that come along, at any price.

I personally agree with Ian's view as it make sense or we end up bringing in administration again, fancy that!

The one thing we not want is to end up in adminstration or worse. Carry on the good work IL, KT, CW. We not want to be like other clubs, look at Boston, Rushden amonst others.

As for Hackett, surely he isn't as quick as he used to be? Or maybe he is... But if he isn't, then I don't see the point. Unless he's learned how to cross that is....

Let's back the owner, Chairman and manager at OUFC. It is more important to put our trust in their integrity and vision than to whinge and undermine their efforts. There really is no place for the defeatists and negative critics. Good luck with the AGM and with the next planning phase.

not bothering with a season ticket.......nothing to get the fans excited as per..........bottom half of the table im afraid...everyone else is strengthening apart from us....yes i sound negative but if people cant see it more full them.....as for the AGM more lies, and question swerving just like the last 1 and 1 before that......lenigan isnt gonna put money in, kelvin has no money and merely a club spokesman, and wilder is a arrogant **** who the players dont respect.....facts from people within the club........we need a buyer sharpish before its to late.

Fans have criticised and moaned for ever and a day about the Manager (Chris Wilder) changing players and tinkering with the team at the drop of a hat, they have criticised the owners complaining of lack of stability and wasting of money on panic buys. Now because the owners and Manager are doing what they asked, not wasting money on panic buys and trying to spend what little resource they have in the right way they are getting slaughtered again. I accept everyone has an opinion and the right to voice that opinion in an nay way they choose, but those who own and run the club also have the right to do what they feel is right in their own time.Those who have the strong negative opinions of those who run the club and should in my opinion do one of two things, Put up and buy the club or shut up and let those prepared to risk their money get on with running the club.

It is only just over a calendar year since promotion was secured, so I say be patient. Fans are never happy and they always want more dosh spent. To those who have posted to that effect perhaps you'd like to put in several thousand pounds ?
