ROB Hall hailed his sensational winner for Oxford United against Swindon Town as the best moment of his entire career.

The 23-year-old stunned the County Ground with a venomous 73rd-minute effort which sealed a 2-1 derby victory.

It completed a turnaround for the U’s, who had trailed with 20 minutes to go before Liam Sercombe’s close-range finish and Hall’s wonder strike.

Swindon failed to keep their cool in stoppage-time, when goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux received a straight red card for a foul on Kane Hemmings as the Robins lost for the seventh time in eight derbies – a barren run stretching all the way back to 2001.

Hall had watched United’s 2-0 victory at the Kassam Stadium in September’s reverse fixture while he recuperated from a serious knee injury.

The eight-month lay-off, combined with style and importance of the goal, meant Hall had not experienced a better moment in football.

He said: “It’s everything – what I’ve gone through and having to watch the first derby and then to go out there and score the winner how I did, I couldn’t top that.

“I thought I caught it too well. I was closer to the goal than I thought, but thankfully it dipped in at the last moment.

“I got booked again (for the celebration), which I wasn’t happy about.

“I couldn’t control myself, we just ended up running into the crowd.

“Coming back from a cruciate injury I never dreamt of doing something like that in a game like this.

“I’m just buzzing.”

Hall had played in local grudge matches while at Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City.

But neither could come close to his first taste of an Oxford-Swindon contest.

He said: “I’ve played in derbies before, but not in an atmosphere like this.

“We couldn’t hear each other on the pitch sometimes it was that loud.

“It wouldn’t have mattered where we were in the table, we had to win this game.”
