DARRYL Eales says Oxford United have received no approach from the Football Association to speak to Michael Appleton.

The U’s boss has been linked with the vacant England Under 21 manager’s role.

But with interviews for the position now under way, United’s chairman confirmed no request has been made to speak to Appleton.

“I can absolutely confirm that no approach from the FA about Michael has been made to me,” Eales said.

“I am sure Michael is extremely flattered to be linked to that job, but we have so much we can achieve at Oxford United.”

Meanwhile, Appleton’s biggest selection headache this afternoon will come when he decides who to play up front for Oxford United at AFC Wimbledon.

The head coach has praised Ryan Taylor for his impact in the last three games, including working alongside Kane Hemmings on Tuesday night.

Hemmings hit a hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Scunthorpe United, where key man Chris Maguire was a substitute.

One option would be to play all three today, with Maguire used in a wide role at the expense of Alex MacDonald or Rob Hall.

Curtis Nelson, skipper John Lundstram and Ryan Ledson are set to return after being rested in midweek.

Wimbledon have several ex-United players in their ranks, but Jon Meades (ankle) will not face his former side.

The defender has an ankle injury and will not be risked, while midfielder Chris Whelpdale is expected to miss out with a groin problem.
