LIAM Sercombe has been booked in for a scan on Thursday to assess the severity of his knee injury.
The Oxford United midfielder was carried off late on in the 2-0 defeat at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday following a block tackle with Abu Ogogo.
It is hoped by the middle of this week the swelling will have gone down sufficiently to allow a scan, which will reveal the extent of the damage.
Speaking immediately after the game at the weekend, head coach Michael Appleton had his fingers crossed for good news.
He said: "Procs (U's head of sport science and medicine Andrew Proctor) reassessed him when he came off the field and he’s a bit happier than he was when he first went on the pitch.
"His ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) seems to be quite intact, which is one of the things they look for straight away.
"He may have done a bit of damage to the medial side, but we’re hoping it’s just a jarring."
