CHEY Dunkley felt Oxford United’s backroom staff deserve a share of the praise for their victory against Swindon Town.

The U’s made the most of their first blank midweek of the season by working on a detailed plan of how to beat the Robins.

It is something the squad do for every game, but on this occasion the players were able to execute the plan to perfection in the 2-0 victory.

And Dunkley felt the foundations for the success were laid at Roman Way last week.

He said: “We did our homework on the training pitch.

“We knew they were going to pass it out and we were setting traps for them.

“When the game started to open up and we needed to hold our line we did that.

“It’s credit to the backroom staff for getting us in shape for this game and it’s paid off.”

Despite eventually winning the game at a canter, it could have been very different without a superb save from Simon Eastwood.

With the score at 1-0, the U’s goalkeeper denied Michael Doughty, who looked odds-on to equalise.

Dunkley said: “To me that’s just as good as a goal.

“He’s being doing it all season and that’s what we need because in this league the opposition are going to have that one chance.

“We can keep them quiet for so long, but then they might get a little ricochet and a chance comes from it.

“He’s been awesome for us.”
