LIAM Sercombe thinks repeating his goalscoring feats for Oxford United from last season will be a tall order.

The midfielder got off the mark for the campaign with Tuesday’s extra-time winner at Birmingham City.

United will be hoping Sercombe can deliver again, having finished the last campaign with 17 goals.

It was a huge total for a player whose previous best for a season was only seven.

And the 26-year-old is setting his sights lower – for the moment.

He said: “I just want to go again like I did last year.

“I only set eight last season, so 17 was a lot for me.

“If I can start off with getting eight and then go again, I’d be happy with that.”

Sercombe’s shooting boots did damage even before the season started.

It was his effort which former Exeter City teammate Christian Ribeiro blocked, fracturing his right ankle.

“I did feel bad,” Sercombe said. “I think it just hit him weirdly.

“I did hit it well, so he’ll have to stay out the way of them from now on.

“Hopefully he’s not out for too long.”
