OXFORD United’s congested fixture list is music to the ears of midfielder Liam Sercombe.

The U’s endured a frustrating weekend, with their match at Exeter City called off on Saturday morning due to a waterlogged pitch.

United are already facing seven league games in the space of just under four weeks, starting tomorrow when Mansfield Town visit the Kassam Stadium.

But for Sercombe, it is a period of the season he is looking forward to.

Speaking before Saturday’s postponement, the 25-year-old said: “Hearing that we have got Saturday-Tuesday, Saturday-Tuesday for a few weeks now is right up my street.

“It is what I like and I am sure the other players are the same as me.”

United’s run to the fourth round of the Emirates FA Cup and to the final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy has contributed to the pile-up.

The trip to Wembley means their home fixture against Dagenham & Redbridge on April 2 will also need to be moved.

However, despite not having a game, the U’s remain third in Sky Bet League Two, with second-placed Plymouth’s fixture at Yeovil postponed, while Bristol Rovers’ home game against AFC Wimbledon also failed to beat the weather.

Although Northampton’s win extended their lead at the top to ten points, defeats for Portsmouth and Accrington Stanley saw United’s bid for automatic promotion receive a big boost.

Sercombe believes United are in a strong position heading into a crucial period.

He said: “We go into every game thinking we can go and win.

“We create enough chances to score a lot of goals so we have got a big month coming up now.

“We are definitely right in the mix and we will play each game as it comes.”
