MICHAEL Appleton could not speak any highly of teenager Jonjoe Kenny after the Everton loanee impressed on his full debut.
The 18-year-old caught the eye as United reached the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final on Tuesday night.
Kenny was, in effect, thrown into the lion’s den against Millwall in the area final second leg and, despite the 1-0 defeat, he was part of a professional display as the U’s clinched a 2-1 victory on aggregate.
The youngster, who is on loan at United for a month, replaced George Baldock in the loss to Blackburn Rovers in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday.
And went onto impress during his first full 90 minutes for the club three days later.
Head coach Appleton said: “Early on he was a little bit edgy, but after the first ten minutes or so he grew into the game, made some fantastic challenges and interceptions at times.
“And there was a bit of link-up play with him and Macca (Alex MacDonald) having obviously not been here that long so that is something to look forward to.”
