A BUOYANT Ryan Taylor is in the mood to keep his hot streak going for as long as possible after netting the only goal in Oxford United’s win against Cambridge United.

The striker confidently slammed in Alex MacDonald’s unselfish pass in the 31st minute for what proved to be the winner at the Kassam Stadium.

It was the 27-year-old’s fourth goal in his last three appearances, which came after Taylor began his U’s career without a goal in his first ten starts.

He said: “Once you get one the confidence is there.

“I said earlier in the season if I keep doing the right things in training then once I get one the rest will come.

“That’s proving the case at the minute, hopefully I can carry on for as long as possible.

“I’m quite laid-back, but very hard-working on the training ground.

“I knew I was doing the right things, so knew at some point with all the hard work that things will change and in the last few games it has.

“I won’t put too much pressure on myself, but every time I go out there I look to score and I’ll be looking to do that on Tuesday (Braintree Town in the Emirates FA Cup) if I’m involved.”

Taylor’s new-found confidence was evident in the second half, when he superbly latched on to Kemar Roofe’s pass and buried the ball into the net from 20 yards.

But the goal was ruled out for offside, in what video replays showed was an incredibly close call.

Taylor said: “I didn’t think I was offside.

“Bondy (Dan Bond, United’s video analyst) said it was very tight.

“I wasn’t aware when I took the touch, I thought ‘take it early’ because at the minute I’m scoring a few goals.

“The referee blew for offside, so I was a bit gutted.

“But the main thing was the three points and we got them.”

United’s inability to score a second goal gave Cambridge hope late on and the hosts had to weather a late storm to protect their lead.

Taylor said: “I think we started very well and set the tone for the game.

“They piled it on towards the end and it was a bit tough, but we managed to grind it out, as good teams do.”

  • OXFORD United have been handed a home tie against Yeovil Town in the southern section semi-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Taylor added: “It’s always good to get the tie at home in front of your own fans, because they help us along.

“It’s a very realistic chance to get into the next round, but we won’t look past Yeovil.

“It will be a tough game, but we’ll be confident we can get the win.”
