End of an era as Aquarena closes

4:00pm Saturday 13th April 2013

Forty years of swimming will come to an end today when the plug is pulled at a town centre pool.

Swimmers are being encouraged to take one last plunge in The Aquarena in Worthing, which hosts its last day of swimming after 45 years today.

The 1960s building is being closed ready for the opening of the new £19.7m Splashpoint Leisure Centre next door on May 1.

The last day will feature an It’s A Knockout-style competition, an appearance by swimmers from the 1968 opening of the pool and finally a Harlem Shake.
