ATHLETICS: Record booster for ace Kuester

David Kuester set a new UK record in the 60-65 age category to win the gold medal at the British Masters Throwers Decathlon in Stoke-on-Trent.

In wet and windy conditions, Kuester, who represents both Bicester and Oxford City, rattled up a tally of 5,011 points.

His record came in the grenade throw, which he launched out to 50.57m - beating the previous record by more than two metres.

Kuester said: "This is only the second Throws Decathlon I've ever competed in, and to set a new UK record is incredible."

Kuester is now looking forward to the British Masters Track & Field Championships on July 5 and 6 at Birmingham's Alexander Stadium.
