Alchester Nigel Marley finished second in the annual Otmoor Challenge Half Marathon in hot and humid conditions.
There were some worrying times earlier in the week, with parts of the course flooded by the torrential rain.
But by the day of the race, the course had dried out for the 315 runners.
The race was won by Graham Robinson of Welwyn Garden City Runners in a time of 1hr 16mins 11secs, but Marley and Paul Fernandez (Abingdon Amblers) followed close behind in second and third.
Garden City also took the men's team prize, while Steve Livingston, from the same club, took the Wenden Cup as winner of the supervets category in 1.21.29.
Alchester won the ladies' team prize.
In the women's race, Angie Sadler, a regular entrant, won both the ladies' overall and veterans' title in 1.32.23, more than ten minutes faster than last year.
Oxford City's Julian Richardson took the Otmoor Cup as winner of the men's veteran race in 1.20.19.
