ATHLETICS: Grolimund leads way for Alchester

Alchester AC’s Liz Grolimund finished second in the senior women’s event at the Otmoor Challenge on Sunday.

She crossed the line in 1hr 29mins 11secs – behind winner Jessica Leitch who finished in 1.27.03.

Alchester’s Samantha Usher was third in 1.30.17.

It also saw Usher lift the Nexel Cup for first veteran lady home.

Alchester’s John Nelson won the Wenden Cup for being the first men’s supervet to finish in 1.23.04.

l Bicester AC’s Ed Burgess produced a national grade two effort as he won the under 17 100m hurdles in the Oxfordshire Young Athletes League meeting at Horspath.

He crossed the line in 13.8 secs and was third in the 100m (11.7secs) and 200m (24.8).

Antony Tracoskis won the under 17 discus with a throw of 20.49m. Rhiannon Penfold recorded a national graded effort to finish third in the under 13 girls 200m in a season’s best 30.74 and was second in the long jump (3.72 pb).

Jess Cherry was third in the under 15 girls long jump with a leap 4.09, while Emily Benfield was second in the under 17 long jump (4.12).

Bicester finished third overall.
