ATHLETICS: Burgess misses out

ED Burgess just missed out on a national mark at the North Oxon Schools Trials at Horspath Road, Oxford.

The Cooper School, Bicester pupil ran away with the 100m hurdles in 14.3 – 0.1 off a national entry mark in the intermediate boys competition.

He then turned his attention to the 100m where he had a great tussle with North Oxfordshire Academy’s Liam Grieveson, who triumphed in 11.3, with Burgess second in 11.4.

Bicester’s Curtis Redford, competing for Cokethorpe School, Witney, won the jav-elin with a throw of 46.94m.

RESULTS BOYS Junior – Triple jump: C Wilke (BCC) 10.65.

Intermediate – 100mH: E Burgess (Coop) 14.3. Long jump: J Turner (Coop) 4.95.

GIRLS Junior – Shot: J Cherry (BCC) 8.07.

Intermediate – Shot: K Cannon (Coop) 6.14.

l NIGEL Marley, from Bic-ester, was the leading local man home in the Mota-Vation Series race at Bletchingdon.

Running for his first-claim club Coventry Godiva Harriers, Marley finished 13th, clocking 23mins 25secs for the undulating 4.25-mile course.

This was officially the second race of the series after round one at Charlton-on-Otmoor had been postponed in May.

The start was delayed by ten minutes when an accident closed part of the course.

Samantha Usher was Alchester’s leading lady, finishing third in the vet 35 category in a time of 26.56.
