Bicester 2nd had reason to celebrate after finishing third in the Wallingford Mixed Seven-a-side tournament on Saturday.
But it wasn’t so great for the first team, who finished ninth.
The second string played some great hockey, winning three games, drawing one and losing one and missing out on being first in their pool by only a point.
That saw Bicester, for whom Peter Bowen starred in goal, compete in the 3rd/4th place play-off against Ayles-bury, which went to penalty flicks after the game finished 1-1 draw.
Bicester’s trio of Adam Buxey, Stacey Barclay and CJ Birtles all found the net as they triumphed 3-2.
Their joint top-scorers in the tournament were Birtles, Mudit Surana and Dugald Humphreys, who each netted three times.
Bicester’s other strikes came from Jon Roger, Joe Sach, Adam Buxey, Mike Bywater, and Sam Smith, who scored her first ever goal for the club.
The tournament gave Michelle Potter the opportunity to play her last game for Bicester before she moves to Germany.
The first team definitely had the harder of the two pools, managing only a win and two draws from their five games.
They finished fifth in their pool which meant they had to play Adastral in the 9th/10th place play-off.
Bicester won that convincingly 2-0.
