JOSHUA Scrivener led the way as Bicester Blue Fins secured a brilliant third place at Maxwell Open Meet in Aylesbury.

The nine-year-old, on his debut at this level, collected seven golds in the level 3 event.

These came in the 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 100m individual medley, 200m freestyle and 200m individual medley.

After the races, he said: “I am most proud of my 200m races as they were at the end of the weekend so were tough, but I love competing and got a big pb in the 200m free.”

With swimmers from 14 clubs attending, including Maxwell, Abingdon Vale, Aylesbury & District, Hemel Hempstead and Chalfont Otters, it was a packed-programme of events.

Bicester’s Oliver Gore, 15, had a succession of spectacular swims, including seven pbs.

He struck gold in the 100m individual medley and 200m freestyle, silver in the 100m butterfly, 50m and 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle, as well as bronze in 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke.

Ethan Cavil, 16, claimed three golds in the 50m backstroke, 100m individual medley and 100m butterfly, and silvers in 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle and 50m fly. He also bagged five pbs.

Flying the flag for the girls was club captain Rachel Lawrence, 15, who captured three silvers in the 100m and 200m individual medley, and 100m freestyle.

Courtney Best recorded a victory in the 50m and 100m freestyle and silver in the 50m breaststroke and 100m individual medley.

Blue Fins took home 42 medals overall and accrued 1,281 points over the event, securing third place behind Maxwell and Abingdon Vale.

Coach Charlotte Innes said: “Our swimmers were on fire this weekend with some incredible pbs and awesome performances across the board.”
