BICESTER Blue Fins shone in the first round of the Chiltern Development League, coming third at Leighton Buzzard.

Their 35-strong squad came out in force to show their worth against swimmers from Leighton Buzzard, Witney, Aylesbury and High Wycombe.

The gala was open to all swimmers aged nine and over with the age categories being under 11, under 13, under 15 and open.

One of Blue Fins’ best displays came from Thomas Whitley, 14, who stepped up to the challenge of the open 50 butterfly and claimed victory

He said: “I was really pleased with my individual performance.

“It was so much fun especially when I could hear my team mates cheering me on.

The gala enforced the ‘no faster than’ (NFT) time rule and this was exceeded six times by Bicester swimmers.

Joy Allen put in those of those swims in the under 11 girls breaststroke and backstroke.

By coming third, Blue Fins have put them in a a good position ahead of the second round on March 24.
