BEN West smashed a 20-year-old Bicester AC record when competing in an open meeting at Watford.

The youngster wrested the club’s under 17s 1500 metre markset by Mark Curzon in 1997, with a magnificent 4mins 6.01secs.

West has now moved up to 31st in the national under 17 rankings.

Meanwhile, Bicester finished last of the eight teams competing in the Heart of England Division 2 match at Kettering.

There was a sterling effort by the club’s under 11 girls, who won their age group, while the under 13 boys came third.

However Bicester were hampered by low turn-outs in some of the age groups.

In the under 11 girls, there were four wins for both A and B strings.

There was a double first in the howler, with Hollie Offord throwing a pb of 18.77m to win the A event, while Holly Keeble (17.41m) took the B string.

Jessica Garside completed a brace of B wins in the long jump (2.91m) and 75 metres (12.80secs).

There were further personal bests for Offord in the 600 metres (2mins 8.3secs) and long jump (3.50m).

Joseph Rayner was another double winner in the under 15 jump events.

Rayner recorded a 5.19m leap in the long jump and produced a similarly graded effort in the high jump with another pb of 1.59m.

There were two further Bicester wins in the A string events.

Sam Rayson raced to a pb of 13.3secs in the under 13 75m hurdles, as well as coming second in the long jump with an effort of 4.33m.

Bicester’s other win came from Molly Acton in the under 17 girls 800 metres (2.32.1).

There was a personal best for Amelia Cox, who was second in the under 15 girls 1500 metres (5.22.9), while Sam White managed a double second in the under 15s 100 and 300 metre events.

l David Kuester, of Bicester AC and Oxford City AC Veterans, win four silver medals at the Midland Masters Track & Field Championships at Nuneaton.

He was second in the M70 age group hammer, javelin, shot put and discus, with season’s best throws in three of the four events.
