AFTER a nail-biting contest, Bicester Blue Fins’ youngest swimmers won the final round of the Milton Keynes & District Junior League at Aylesbury.

The Bicester competitors, aged from nine to 12, edged home by one point from St Ives in the Division 2 gala.

Blue Fins’ first win came from the under 10 girls team of Olivia Sheldrake, Holly Mclellan, Isla Bohannon and Olivia Jordan in the 25m medley relay.

The first places kept on coming with Bicester achieving 16 in all.

Bohannon swam her heart out to win the 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle, while Harry Wynne-Jones took first place in the both 11 and 12 year-old 50m butterfly.

Freddie Kemp took first place in the nine-year-old 25m freestyle, while Mclellan claimed first place in the girls nine-year-old 25m breaststroke.

The older girls’ age group also shone, with Georgia Usher winning the 11-year-old 50m breaststroke and Tia Falkner taking the 12-year-old 50m butterfly.

Lauren McKenzie triumphed in the 12-year-old 50m breaststroke, while William Jones sent the crowd wild with a great first position in the ten-year-old 50m freestyle.

Successes followed in both the girls and boys ten-year-old 25m freestyle relays.

The final event was the 8x25m cannon freestyle relay, comprising the fastest boy and girl swimmers from the four age categories.

After a thrilling race, the Blue Fins team of Mclellan, Kemp, Bohannon, Zac Powell, Usher, Freddy Bunce, Falkner and Wynne-Jones scored an important victory.
