A QUEST to win one of Europe’s biggest pro-am competitions begins for Craig Hewing and the Bicester PGA professional Peter Thompson next month when they tee up in the Lombard Trophy regional final at Coventry.
The contest on July 18 is one of 14 regional finals being staged across the UK.
They will be up against 64 other clubs, with the winners going through to the 36-hole final at the Pestana Vila Sol Golf & Hotel resort on the Algarve, Portugal, in September.
Hewing landed a chance to have a tilt at reaching for the grand final when he won the Bicester qualifying competition with a nett 65.
The 44-year-old accountant, from Bicester, has been playing golf for 15 years and plays off a handicap of 21.
Thompson, 37, has been a professional at Bicester for eight years.
The event attracts entries from more than 700 clubs across Great Britain and Ireland.
Lombard originally sponsored the tournament from 1995 to 2006 before returning in 2013.
