ATHLETICS: Bicester veteran David Kuester set a personal best to win his first competition of the year and move into the top five of the world rankings.

Kuester was competing in the WTC Weight Triathlon World Cup at Moorways Stadium, Derby.

In wet conditions, the Bicester AC and Oxford City AC veteran, came first in the 70+ age group with a combined distance 54.72 metres for the three disciplines.

He hurled the 3kg weight 23.68 metres, the 5kg weight 17.94m and the 7.5kg weight 13.10m, coming first in each event.

Kuester also came first in his age category in the Midland Masters Throwers Group Strongest Man Championship with a total of 1,789 points.

This success is expected to see him rise from seventh to fifth in the world rankings.

HOCKEY: Bicester 3rd had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home Oxford Hawks 6th, despite playing against ten men for most of the South League match.

Hawks’ centre back was dismissed midway through the first half following a disagreement with the umpire.

Spurred on by their sense of injustice, Hawks then played with renewed resolve, and took a 1-0 interval lead.

Bicester’s extra man began to tell as they pressurised the visitors and ten minutes into the second half, Nick Styles intercepted a clearance and smashed home.

They created several more goal scoring opportunities, but a combination of poor finishing and some inspired goalkeeping kept them at bay.

GOLF: John Hoath won Bicester GC’s seniors monthly stableford with 33 points.

He won on countback from Geoff Gaskins, while Fred Tagliaferro was third one point behind.
