BICESTER Blue Fins finished their National Arena League programme on a high with a convincing victory in their West Midlands Premier Division contest at Wolverhampton.

The club secured 17 wins and 12 second places as they triumphed by 27 points, to finish mid-table in their second season at this level.

In the individual race, 12-year-old Lottie Wynne-Jones again blew away the opposition with three wins out of three.

She took the 100m backstroke by four seconds.

And not only did she smash the 100m butterfly record for her age group, she also swam up an age category and finished first in the age 15 100m butterfly.

Freddie Ashley-Sparks, 13, came first in the 100m butterfly and was second in the 100m backstroke.

Thomas Thornley, 16, also clocked up a win and a second place in the men’s open 100m backstroke and freestyle events, a feat matched by fellow 16-year-old Kieran Bird in the open IM and 100m butterfly.

In the age 10/11 category, Harry Wynne-Jones and Tia Falkner won their respective 50m butterfly races.

Blue Fins’ other individual victories came from Joshua Rowland, 15, in the 100m freestyle, Oliver Inness, 14, in the 100m backstroke and Alexander Pryce in the 13 & under 100m breaststroke.

Bicester’s other successes came in the relays.

The girls under 15 team of Neve Gascoyne, Sinead Vine-Nealon, Chloe Wanless and Lottie Wynne-Jones stormed to victory in both the 4x50m freestyle and medley events.

Also with two wins out of two were the ladies' open teams of Vine-Nealon and Wynne-Jones, Courtney Best and Ellie Falkner, winning the freestyle event.

Also stunning the opposition was the boys' under 13 team of Ashley-Sparks, Christopher Littleton, Ryan McKenzie and Alexander Pryce in the 4x50m medley and freestyle events.

Blue Fins head coach Craig Oliver said: “For our small club to battle against city clubs and finish mid-table in the Premier League overall is frankly remarkable.”
