Bicester Town secretary Roger Wise has welcomed the decision to place the newly reformed club in Division 1 East of the Uhlsport Hellenic League for the new season, writes Tom St John.

The decision will be rubberstamped at the League’s annual meeting this Sunday in Burford and could see them playing the likes of Easington Sports, Old Woodstock Town and Didcot Town Res.

Bicester were forced to pull out of the Hellenic League back in 2011 after a disagreement with the landlords Bicester Sports Association (BSA) who evicted them from their Oxford Road ground.

“In terms of travelling, it means that most of the games will be local or off the M40,”

said Wise.

“So as far as convenience goes, that’s what we were looking for.

“We did actually send a fairly diplomatic letter requesting that we go in to Division 1 East.

“With a lot of teams in Division 1 West, you’re having to venture in to Gloucestershire and Wiltshire.

“We’re not 100 per cent sure what the constitution of the league will be until it’s announced on Sunday, but we’ve received an email from the Hellenic League informing us that we will be in Division 1 East.

“I would imagine, again, depending on the confirmed constitution of the league, that we will go up against a few teams from around the county, which is exciting.”

Meanwhile, Bicester are hosting their first training session tonight at Pingle Field, starting at 6.45pm, which is open to anyone who feels they can play at Hellenic League level.
