Bicester’s Men were celebrating after securing the highest league position in the club’s history by finishing third in the Middx, Berks, Bucks & Oxon League Division 1 on Saturday.
An impressive 5-2 victory at Old Merchant Taylors in Northwood ensured they finished ahead of Amersham & Chalfont by three points.
It could have been sweeter for Bicester, as they finished just four points off top spot – British Airways won the title – and promotion.
Skipper Jonny Reid got Bicester off the mark after Warren Pereira had put the hosts ahead.
Reid expertly rounded the goalkeeper following Andy Brown’s superb through pass before finding the net to level the scores.
Adam Drewitt then superbly finished from top scorer Dave Sutcliffe’s firm cross and the latter made it 3-1 with a penalty flick.
After half-time, CJ Birtles and Reid got a goal each from short corners to close out the victory.
Pereira scored Old Merchant’s second, but by then it was too late as Bicester wrapped up their highest-ever finish.
