Oakley United suffered agony as they went down to a last-gasp 4-3 defeat against Oxford University Press in the Oxfordshire Senior League’s President’s Cup semi-final on Saturday.

With time running out and the sides locked at 3-3, the game looked destined for a draw, only for Sam Wharton to hit a late winner for the hosts.

It was looking good for the Premier Division high-fliers when Shayne Almond put the visitors 1-0 up at half-time.

However, strikes from Neil Lockhart, Kyle Moss and Johnny Roberts in the early stages of the second half put OUP firmly in command.

Oakley hit back with quick goals from Tom Gant and James Keeble.

But just when the game looked destined to end in stalemate, Wharton met Jamie McCuaig’s excellent ball across to bag an 89th-minute winner.

Oakley United Res had to settle for a point after being held 3-3 at home by Oxford University Press Res in a topsy-turvy Division 2 clash where the lead changed hands several times.

George Atkinson gave the hosts an early lead.

However, goals from James Humm and Nolan Aselford put the visitors in front at the break.

Two quick goals from Brad Newman and Australian right back Josh Lingard put Oakley back in front, But veteran centre half Bobby Parsons salvaged a point with the equaliser.
