Bicester Blue Fins’ Kieran Bird won a medal treble at the ASA South Zonals Championships at the London Aquatics Centre at the weekend.

He struck gold in the 16 & under 200m butterfly, touching home in 2.09.62.

Bird then won bronze medals in the 100m butterfly in 59.40 and 1500m freestyle (17.02.16).

Fellow 15-year-old Tom Thornley won silver in the 200m backstroke.

He broke the county record in the heat of the 50m backstroke and did it again in the final in a sizzling time of 28.21 to finish fourth, a time which has to be verified.

Having already secured the club age group record of 2.09.18 in the heat, Thornley set a new club age group record of 1.00.48 in the heat of the 100m backstroke where he finished fourth.

Thornley also set a new club age group record of 55.74 in the 100m freestyle.

Lottie Wynne-Jones, the youngest competitor at the event smashed three county best times in the 14 & under category.

Her time in the 100m butterfly of 1.08.48 was not only a club record, but also a county mark.

It was only a fraction of a second shy of the South East regional record.

Her time of 2.35.18 in the 200m butterfly in another county best time, as she made the final.

She also sliced eight seconds off her own club age group record in 2.35.99 in the 200m backstroke.

Ellie Falkner, 15, qualified for the gruelling 800m freestyle.

She swam a personal best that was also a new overall club record of 9.34.55 to finish seventh.
