Bicester maintained their promotion charge with a super 4-2 victory away to leaders British Airways in Division 1 of the Middx, Berks, Bucks & Oxon League.

A clinical performance from Wayne Buxey, along with good play from Harry Gaunt and Jeff Elliot saw Bicester net two goals in each half.

Buxey scored with his first touch and Ian Oak made it 2-0, before British Airways pulled a goal back.

In the second half, they equalised with a deflected goal.

But the visitors regained the lead through Buxey from Jonny Reid’s pass.

They added another when Reid fired in from a short corner.

Bicester 2nd underlined their Division 5 promotion credentials with a 3-1 home win against Northampto-nshire outfit Wootton Wanderers, thanks to a Ben Kirk double.

Despite bossing possession, Bicester were initially unable to penetrate a well-disciplined Wootton defence.

However, ten minutes into the second half, Bicester went ahead when a slick penalty corner routine ended with top scorer Kirk firing an unstoppable reverse stick strike into the bottom corner.

Although Wootton levelled, Kirk restored Bicester’s advantage with a carbon-copy of his first to take his goals tally to 19 for the season.

Victory was sealed in the final minute when Jason Crook’s penalty corner deflected off a defender’s foot for Justin Temple to slam home his second goal in two games.
