Oakley shooter Matt French will be aiming for glory this morning (10am) when he competes in the clay target discipline in Glasgow.

Although a highly experienced competitor, it’s the first time he has taken part in the Games.

And he is very hopeful of a solid display in Scotland.

“At 33, I’m shooting better than I’ve ever shot,” said French.

“And it’s one of those sports where you learn as you get older.

“There’s certainly no real cut off in terms of age.

“You very rarely see a world-class shooter in their early 20s because they’re still learning, still travelling to venues all over the world, still developing themselves and changing physically.”

French added: “I won the English Open Championships this year and set a new British record in the same time, and from them we’ve gone to the European Championships where we’ve just won a European team silver medal.”

Meanwhile, Marsh Gibbon hockey player Zoe Shipperley will be hoping to help England to victory in their opener against Wales today (11am).

The 24-year-old defender, used to work as a graduate assistant at St Edward’s School, Oxford, but now plays the sport full time.
