Joe Miller proved his status as the continent’s longest hitters when he won the Long Drivers European Tour event at the Heathfield Park Golf Centre, near Bletchingdon.

The 29-year-old from Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, won the contest with a longest drive of 361 yards into the wind and on a sodden fairway in the final against Scott Beaven, from Mortimer, near Reading.

“It was a most enjoyable day,” said Heathfield’s co-owner Geoff Robbins.

“It was amazing to see golfers hit the ball such vast distances.

“We’d love to be able to stage it again.”
