Kieran Bird won three gold medals as Bicester Blue Fins continued their success when the Oxfordshire & North Bucks County Championships resumed at Aylesbury with the individual races and sprints.

He touched home first in the 200m and 100m butterfly and 100m individual medley and was crowned county junior champion in the 200m butterfly (all ages 16 and under).

Fellow national swimmer and 14-year-old rival Tom Thornley struck gold in the 100m backstroke, silver in the 100m butterfly and two bron-zes.

Lottie Wynne-Jones stor-med to victory in the 50m butterfly and added four silvers to put her second in the overall 10-year-old girls county standings.

William Whitley, 12, won gold in the 50m breaststroke, and silver in the 200m event.

Freddie Ashley-Sparks sec-ured his third gold medal of the championships by winning the 11-year-old 200m butterfly and silver in the 100m butterfly.

The squad, sponsored by Bicester Village, now boasts six age group champions, putting it firmly in the top five clubs in the county medal table with one weekend of racing still to go.

Bicester Blue Fins Head Coach Struan McNeil said: “We’re not one of the larger clubs in the county, but we’re definitely punching above our weight in these finals.

“To have youngsters and masters in our squad, picking up 13 gold medals so far with still one weekend to go is a sign of how much this club is developing.

“As well as all the PBs and club records, we now have ten swimmers with regional qualifying times and two have secured a clutch of national times.”
