FOOTBALL: Boss still aims to bow out in style
Ardley United boss Dan Still wants to end his three-season reign on a high after his side booked their place in the Sport Italia Hellenic League's Soccer Kits Plus Supplementary Cup final against Shortwood with a 3-2 aggregate win at Wantage Town.
Still steps down after the final at Fairford Town on May 3, when former Oxford United star Kevin Brock will take over.
Leading 2-0 from the first leg, Ardley went behind when Wantage skipper Garry Hartley headed home, before Ellis Langford levelled.
However, holders Ardley sealed their place in the final when substitute Steve Garbutt cracked home the winner.
Still said he had no fears about facing Shortwood in the final, despite having lost 3-2 to them on Saturday.
Andy Prescott gave Ardley the lead, only for Will Steadman to level and Chris Davis to give Shortwood the lead.
Eight minutes from time, Adam Beckett equalised, but Ben Ngwa fired in the winner for Shortwood at the death past Matt Dixon.
"We put out a very different side on Saturday," said Still.
"Ian Trott and Ryan Curtin didn't play, and Danny Mason was on the bench.
"Looking at the final, Shortwood offer something of a threat, but seeing how well we competed against them, we certainly have a chance.
"You could not have scripted it better. Now it's up to the players to finish off a great three seasons for me by winning the cup."
Tomorrow, Ardley conclude their Premier Division campaign at home to Hook Norton.
Still added: "It's my last home game, so it would be nice to go out with a win."
Ardley Utd (v Hook Norton, home): from Dixon, Costella, Mason, Trott, Richmond, Martin, Garbutt, Johnson, Carrick, Prescott, Beckett, Green, Omar, Kirby.
Joby Edwards ended his four-year stint as Launton Sports manager as his side lost 3-0 against Letcombe in Division 1 West on Tuesday.
On Saturday, Launton lost 3-1 at Cricklade. Christian Jones had earlier levelled.
