JAMES Henry ensured Oxford United supporters can all-but stop worrying about relegation after scoring the only goal at Doncaster Rovers.

But the midfielder will not get a break from the sleepless nights – his first child is due today.

James and Henry may prove popular names on the labour wards in Oxfordshire after the importance of the substitute’s diving header at the Keepmoat Stadium.

While the 1-0 victory does not eliminate the U’s from the relegation battle, the odds of up to 80/1 offered by bookmakers on Karl Robinson’s side going down say it all.

Their 53-point total has been good enough for third-tier survival in every season since 1988/89.

But while Henry believes it will probably be enough, he is taking nothing for granted with sides below still having games in hand.

He said: “I still want to be a League One or higher player.

“No-one wants to be flirting with the bottom of this league, so it’s nice to get the three points and hopefully we’ve done enough to stay up.

“I think a lot depends on Tuesday, but it’s probably going to be record points this season for the team that goes down in that fourth spot.

“It’s in our own hands, that’s the good thing.”

Henry was one of the senior players who were told to stay at home and recharge their batteries by boss Karl Robinson for last week’s visit to leaders Wigan Athletic.

But it did not prove to be particularly restful, as the 28-year-old prepares for a new arrival.

He said: “We’re due a baby on Monday so me and the missus went out for one last meal, but unfortunately I had my phone out pretty much the whole time.

“There wasn’t much talking going on.

“I’m very excited and this is just a small stepping stone to a nice summer hopefully.”

Henry’s header was his tenth goal of the season, just one behind U’s top-scorer Wes Thomas.

But the former Reading youngster only found out he had put United in front from the reaction of the away fans behind the goal.

“To be totally honest I didn’t see the ball go in the back of the net, because I had the defender in the way after I headed it,” he said.

“But I heard the fans and that was enough for me.”
